What has God created you to be?

Updated: Sep 14

I know. Many of us have no clue of why we're here. For me, I always felt that God created me to be just an actor. That has been my passion since childhood. I can still remember me sitting in front of my television with a tape recorder, yes, a cassette tape recorder, and recording episodes of 'Gimme A Break' starring the late Nell Carter. She was my inspiration for being in performing arts.

Well, as time went on, I had to drop this fascination and get a "real" job as my mother would put it. But it never left me. I struggled with living in this world as someone else and not what I longed to be.

Finally, decades later in 2008, while living in Milwaukee, WI, I had made up my mind that I would leave my "real" job and relocate to Atlanta, GA and pursue my acting passion. My "real" God-given talent. After a few years working in major productions with only small non-speaking roles, I walked away. Temporary, though.

Fast forward to 2021. Now we live in Florida. Corona virus in full-swing. A co-worker asked me if I baked cakes. I said "yes", without thinking! I wasn't a baker on a full-scale like so many others. Anyway, I made her a pound cake and she paid me for it. I thought that was the end of it. Nope. She shared slices of it with some of our coworkers and that started, MELBA CAKES!

I had absolutely no idea what I was doing as a cake baker nor as a small business owner. All I could do was keep baking and asked Jesus to join me in the kitchen each time. He did! Many of my creations were great. Yes, I said many not all. There have been some flops along the way. And several times I wanted to give up and never touch my cake mixer again.

But God would not hear of that. I realized, at that moment, there were other talents He created in me! I was not just an out-of-work actor, writer, producer and director, but a baker and now, a crafter!

So, that's why I want you all to reach down inside and pull out the talents that God has created you to do and just do it! Don't worry about you not having the professional skills, money, or support. I'm just a broke school bus driver who loves to bake, cook and craft. All you need is Jesus in the room with you. He'll lead you all the way!
